It's never easy to pick the worst films in Malayalam this year for the simple reason that there were too many of them. Here we have chosen ten of them, among the most high-profile releases.
Ladies & Gentleman: Director Siddque had returned after a 100 crore Bollywood saga called Bodyguard and the expectations were huge with a heavy duty star cast that included Mohanlal. But Ladies & Gentleman was a disaster all the way and was a test of patience for the viewer.
Geethanjali: What was Priyadarshan thinking when he plagiarized (what else he does, by the way, in all his films?) the Thai film Alone, which was already made in Tamil as Charulatha? Mohanlal was left clueless in yet another role, after the horrible Joshiy film, Lokpal.
Kalimannu: First director Blessy hogged the headlines for shooting with a pregnant etha Menon and then, for shooting her real life delivery. And after the hullabaloo, what came on screen was a nauseating misadventure, which was actually an advertisement for some fertility hospital.
3 Dots: After he made a fantastic debut with Ordinary, director Sugeeth had to live up to huge expectations and he made a mangled mess called 3 Dots. With no script and some pathetic performances, the film mocked the viewers.
Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal: Dileep was on a magic run with Z grade movies like Nadodi Mannan, Sringaravelan and Sound Thoma raking in the moolah in a spectacular way. But Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal came as a jolt from the blue.
Lal Jose, who made a brainless comedy Pullippulikalum Aattinkkuttiyum that went on to become a hit,fell flat with this one.
Hotel California: Anoop Menon's antics with adultery, booze and double meaning dialogues perhaps ended at least for a while, when the tacky Hotel California turned out be terrible. All he can take credit for these days is for putting an end to the 'new generation' films!
Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty: Big names like Mammootty and Ranjith and cameos by actors including Mohanlal and Dileep couldn't save Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkuttyfrom turning out to be a ridiculous affair.
Pattam Pole: Cinematographer turned director Azhagappan's Pattam Pole had Dulquer Salmaan as a lover boy. And the actor behaved on screen as if he was not interested in the whole affair.
Olipporu: That Fahadh Faasil, the blue eyed boy of Malayalam cinema couldn't do anything wrong was the popular perception, and he even proved to be the saving grace in films like Red Wine and Immanuel. But with Olipporu, things were different and this one was absurd by all means, though Fahadh gave his heart and soul to the character.
Kunjananthante Kada: After the terrific Adaminte Makan Abu, director Salim Ahmad made a messy misadventure with Mammootty as an egoistic shopkeeper going through a troubled marriage. But the story had no real direction and the viewers were baffled about what the director was trying to say with this one.
Among other few which proved to be turkeys at box-office were - Kamath & Kamath,Lokpal, Mad Dad, Zachariyayude Garbhinikal.
