One such initiative, AIMA has been able to successfully conduct is computer simulated management games in various organisations and Institutions spread across length and breadth of the country. The response from the B-Schools like yours has been one of appreciation and acclaim. A lot of B-Schools have benefited from our computer simulated business management games.
The game involves participation of 3-4 members in a team with no. of teams ranging from 8 to 10. Each team is presented with a scenario of a running company with its financial reports and they have to maximize a particular winning criterion by taking suitable decisions every quarter for five successive quarters. This is a very innovative way, of learning nuances of business management and understanding cross functional relationship among the various areas such as Marketing, Finance, Operations, R&D, HR
We are sure your Institution would like to have these games conducted In-house for the benefit of the Budding Managers so that they too can benefit immensely in areas of strategic decision making and in developing wider perspective of running a company in competitive environment.. In the last three years, I have personally visited about 2000 private higher education institutions of the country. During those visits, I saw their campuses, hostels, labs, libraries, auditoriums, innovative steps taken by them, energetic students studying there, talented faculty members and always-active management. In fact, to look active is their compulsion. They have specialised in displaying minor things into bigger one with impressive packaging. But the prime question is whether the product that we get from them is really what we expect from them to produce?
When I pass through any national or state highway, flyover or the developing townships, I visualise the progress that the country is witnessing. But when I try to see the machines, tools or methods being used there, indigenous machines, products or methods are found missing. I also see various industries as well as their products, but there too I find mostly the foreign made tools, goods, methods or the work being done according to the foreign needs.
During my visits or surveys, I also have seen dozens of standard institutions which have maintained quality. Their labs, research work and also the libraries were really world class. But, those institutions too lacked the element of Indianness. Some institutions were prototype of Germany, while some copied Japan, France, China, the US, England, or any other country. Their libraries are full of the books mostly authored by foreign writers and the research is mostly the review work of the foreign research scholars. Every institution was seen lacking the element of Indianness in their style of working, thinking and action with no enthusiasm for maintaining balance with the Indian needs, achieving something exclusive, original and innovative.
Amidst this scenario, when I read some reports published in a section of media that 93 per cent managers, 80 per cent engineering students and 65 per cent medical students are not up to the mark, I am shocked at looking the cheating being done with the young generation and their parents. The avalanche of privatisation that began after new economic policy of 1991 was put to rest with the slowdown as well as the recession of 2008 extremely shaking the private higher institutions in India. An ordinary medical or dental college normally grants admissions to 100 students, management institute from 200 to 300, engineering institute from 500 to 1000 and a university from 1500 to 2000 students—provided they get this number of students. They have to burn midnight oil for six months to secure maximum admissions. A fake picture of huge employment opportunities is also created. Some 10 to 15 per cent institutions are seen trapping most of the students by showing unrealistic dreams. This is totally wrong. The present education sector can genuinely be strengthened and expanded many fold if every institution imparts quality education, produce good professionals and give new dimension and expansion to the industry. Every student has any of the talent or original idea. The institutes having limited resources can also show good results.
The country needs medium, big or foreign institutions. In this situation, the game to swallow small fish by big fish cannot be justified. We need the policies, which ensure proper utilisation of infrastructure and human resources available in abundance in small institutions, which are, unfortunately, at the verge of shut down. The investment of our resources should not go waste. And at the same time education sector should not be over-commercialised. The country dreams of fast and holistic development with the formulation of the new education policy. The Prime Minister himself wants that educational institutions should expand but without compromising quality of the education.
It is good that the government seems to be focusing on Indianisation of institutions, educational autonomy, innovation, patent, research and entrepreneurship. At the same time there is an important aspect whether the students, teachers, managers of the institutions find themselves comfortable in their new role. Till now, the education in private sector has been an instrument of making “easy money”. That is why there is restlessness among these institutions when there are talks of changes, accountability, transparency in admission process, monitoring and digitalisation. Some are trying to mould them according to the new set up, while some are passing through a transition phase. There is also a section, which is on the move to run away. Proper dialogue, coordination and understanding need to be maintained between the policymakers and the institutions, which have to materialise the renewed vision so that new infrastructure required for future needs of the education can be created without any major loss. The annual survey by ‘Dialogue India’, Academia Conclave and also the Award Function are the steps in the same direction.

मोदी सरकार के दो वर्ष पूरे होते होते कांग्रेस पार्टी अपने पतन की एक और निचली सीमा को लांघती दिख रही है, यह सीमा पार करने के बाद अब कांग्रेस एक क्षेत्रीय दल बन चुकी है और हाल ही में हुए पांच राज्यों के विधानसभा चुनावों में भाजपा और अन्य क्षेत्रीय दलों को मिलती सफलता ने देश की राजनीति को बड़े और नए बदलाव की ओर धकेल दिया है। कई मामलों में ये बदलाव सकारात्मक है तो कई मामलों में चिंताजनक भी। कांग्रेस पार्टी का मौजूदा नेतृत्व अपने फीके पड़ चुके चाल,चरित्र, चेहरे, नीतियों, का र्यक्रमों और शैली में किसी भी प्रकार का बदलाव लाने को तैयार नहीं है और इसी कारण जनता उसे नकारती जा रही है और भाजपा व अन्य क्षेत्रीय दल इस उभरते शून्य को भरते जा रहे हैं। जमीनी कांग्रेसी नेता धीरे धीरे खिसककर अन्य दलों में शामिल होते जा रहे हैं और कांग्रेस पार्टी आधारहीन,दिशाहीन व गांधी परिवार के पालतू लोगों का क्लब बन गयी है। धीमे धीमे इस दल का अंत तय है। देश की जनता ने कांग्रेस को विभाजन, झूठ, लूट और भ्रष्टाचार की राजनीति का पर्याय मानकर हाशिये पर तो ला दिया मगर भाजपा का विकल्प के रूप में विस्तार जिस तेजी से होना चाहिए था ,वह कहीं न कहीं धीमा जरूर पड़ा है और जो क्षेत्रीय दल उभर कर सामने आ रहे हैं, प्रकारांतर कांग्रेस की 'बांटो और राज करो’ की नीति पर ही चलने वाले हैं, इन दलों की विभाजन की राजनीति के बीच देश का समग्र विकास कैसे होगा यह चिंताजनक बात है। ये क्षेत्रीय दल व्यक्तित्व के करिश्मे से चलने वाले और भ्रष्ट तरीको को संरक्षण देने वाले अधिक हैं। इन दलों में आंतरिक लोकतन्त्र का अभाव है, एक परिवार द्वारा संचालित होते हैं और धर्म, भाषा, क्षेत्र, जाति की राजनीति कर देश की मूल समस्याओं से जनता का ध्यान बांटे रखना इनकी कार्यशैली का हिस्सा है। कल्याणकारी योजनाओं के नाम पर जनता को मुफ़्त सुविधाएं बांटना और वोट बटोरना इनकी प्रिय कार्यशैली है। सत्ता पाना और उस पर कब्ज़ा बनाये रखना इनका अकेला उद्देश्य है।
भाजपा का उभार जो पिछले तीन चार वर्षों में हुआ है वह निश्चित रूप से विस्मयकारी है। नरेंद्र मोदी की छाया में पार्टी ने कश्मीर और असम तक में सरकार बना ली जो इससे पूर्व अकल्पनीय था। राष्ट्रवाद और हिंदुत्व के एजेंडे को इस पार्टी ने संघ परिवार के साथ मिलकर राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर स्वीकार्य बना लिया यह अपने आप में क्रान्तिकारी है। यह मात्र विश्व स्तर पर चल रही राष्ट्रवादी लहर का हिस्सा नहीं है वरन पहचान के संकट से गुजर रहे आम भारतीय की कुंठा और आक्रोश की सामूहिक अभिव्यक्ति भी है और अब देश की राजनीति का स्थायी तत्व भी। यह हमारे संविधान के मूल भाव की बड़ी जीत है। मगर इस भाव को बनाये रखने के लिए भाजपा को अथक प्रयास करने होंगे। मोदी के आकर्षण और करिश्माई नेतृत्व के बीच पार्टी में आंतरिक लोकतंत्र बचाये रखना बड़ी चुनौती है वहीं विभाजन और रेबड़ी बांटने की अन्य दलों की राजनीति के बीच भाजपा शासित राज्यों की सरकारों में फैले भ्रष्टाचार को नियंत्रण में रखना और अपने आदर्शों व सिद्धान्तों से न भटकना एक बड़ी चुनौती है। अन्य दलों की तरह भाजपा में लोकप्रिय नेतृत्व, मुखर व जमीनी कार्यकर्ताओं को महत्व मिलना कम हो गया है तथा पूंजीवादी लोग एवं कारपोरेटवाद हावी हो चुका है और कांग्रेस के पतन होते रहने से सत्ता में लंबे समय तक बने रहने का गुबार भी, यह सब खतरनाक है। चूंकि भाजपा अब देश की एकमात्र राष्ट्रीय पार्टी है, ऐसे में उसकी जिम्मेदारी और जवाबदेही दोनों बढ़ जाती हैं। पार्टी को आत्म अनुशासित होने के साथ ही आन्तरिक लोकतन्त्र बनाये रखने में और स्थानीय व क्षेत्रीय जमीन से जुड़े नेतृत्व को आगे बढ़ाने की दिशा में भी काम करना होगा ताकि अन्य दलों को भी प्रेरणा मिल सके। अगर मोदी सरकार को देश और सरकार पर अपनी पकड़ मजबूत बनाये रखनी है तो यही एकमात्र उपाय उनके पास है।
