German software company SAP boasts a workforce of 65,000 and a reputed name across the corporate horizon. Yet when it comes to tapping into true talent they hold no bounds and set new benchmarks with exemplar moves. In a recent announcement, the company stated that it would ensure that 1% of its workforce would be comprised of those afflicted by autism. This is sure to be over six hundred, if you do the match. Patients suffering from autism generally face problems with social interaction and physical behavior but often tend to by highly intelligent and have a keen eye to detail. This skill can prove to be extremely helpful for those in the information technology business, and that’s just what SAP are looking to tap into. SAP executive Luisa Delgado said, “Only by employing people who think differently and spark innovation will SAP be prepared to handle the challenges of the 21st Century.”
Currently, SAP has hired six people in the Bangalore office, where they work as testers. As expected, the productivity of that sector has seen a boost, thus encouraging the move on a more larger scale. The recruitment will be carried out with the help of Specialisterne, a Danish social organisation that helps people with autism find work with information technology companies.
