Out of National Interest, I have written series of 3 books on World Class Universities. The detailed information is available athttps://www.facebook.com/wcu. books . To access or view this page the Facebook membership is not required. To compile these volumes thousands of documents from more than 50 countries and 300 institutes of higher education have been referred (more than 150,000 pages).
There is a wide gap between Indian and World Class Universities. For example,
- The 50 top ranking World Class Universities gets more than $1 Billion (Rs. 6100 Crore) endowment per year. In 2012, Harvard and Yale Universities had endowment funds of $31.72 Billion (Rs 193492 Crore) and $19.37 Billion (Rs 118157Crore) respectively.
- Operating budget of Harvard University is $3.7 billion (Rs 22570 Crore) where as in India, under 12th Five Year Plan the total Plan allocation for the Department of Higher Education is Rs.110,700 Crore.
- MIT alumni employ about 3.3 million people and generate annual world revenues of $2 trillion, producing the equivalent of the eleventh-largest economy in the world
To enhance the education standard of Indian University or Higher Education Institute, this series of books highlight thousands of innovative mechanisms and best practices, which are adopted by existing world class universities. The series includes following books (Shroff Publication SPD)
- "Funding Techniques of World Renowned Universities" (204 pages, 251 references): New and innovative techniques to raise the finance for Higher Education institutes (other than traditional sources like UGC, AICTE, DST)
- "Strategy to Develop World Class Universities" (500 pages, 444 references): Step by step strategic planning to build World Class University with hundreds of case studies, successful practices and mechanisms.
- "Technology-Storms Redefining World Class Universities" (412 pages, 523 references): Innovative use of hundreds of Technologies to enhance the performance of the institutes (Will be Release on 31 Oct 2013)
These books can help to change the mindset of Faculty members, Principals, Vice Chancellors, Government Regulatory authorities as well as students and parents.
This venture can boost the brainstorming on the National Higher Educational Liberalization and Reform Policy like India’s Economic Liberalization Policy & Reforms of 1991, which have resulted in the amazing 9% GDP growth rate in 2007.
The Japan and Germany are 4th and 5th ranking economies of the world (GDP-PPP ranking). They don't have natural resources like USA, China and India. For example the Niagara fall generates billion dollar energy every year. Thus Japan and Germany have preferred to develop the Knowledge Based Society for developing Economy, which solely depends up on education standards of the nation. To build the better Indian knowledge based society we must have world class education systems.
The small countries are having top 200 ranking World Class Universities like Netherland - 12, Switzerland - 7, Honk Kong - 4, Israel - 3 and Singapore - 2 universities. The India should not be lagging behind. India must learn a lesson from existing world renowned universities and must adopt the best practices to enhance the education standards. It’s a question of 250 million young population of India.
