It's easy to forget history as something represented only in stories and writing. But there is no present without the history preceding it, and we cannot look to the future without looking at the other direction as well - the past, for it is the past upon which we stand when we try to step forward into future times. There have been many glorious and horrible moments in our past, and this photo series brings that fact to light in amazing clarity.
