Kallakurichi is a municipality in Viluppuram district in state of Tamil Nadu, India. The town is well connected by NH 68 (Chennai - Salem). The nearest Airport is Salem Airport about 100 km away. The nearest railway station is at Chinnasalem 15 km from Kallakurichi. (Construction of a new railway track connecting Chinnasalem and Kallakurichi is under progress).
This article will give information about the history of Sri Hanumantha idols  which is located at Kallakurichi. I had chance to visit two different Hanuman temples at Kallakurichi.
First I visited the temple which was installed nearly 200 years back and its located just opposite to Kallakurichi Bus Stand. This temple is located on the main road so many devotees get chance to have dharsan of this Pranadevaru everyday. This Prana devaru is considered to be very powerful and blesses thousands of his devotees everyday.
And another one was installed by great Saint Sri Vyasatirtha almost 500 years back on the banks of the river Gomaki.Kallakurichi Sri Hanumantha devaru was one of his holiness 732 idols pratista. To get the complete list click here
There is a Moola brindhavana(outside the temple premises near the river bank) of great Madhva saint who was doing pooja to Vyasarajaru pratistha hanumantha for several years. Its said even now that this saint comes in form of Snake and visits prana devaru temple frequently. There are stones with Lipi outside this brindhavana and I am in research of finding out the history of this brindhavana!
About Sri Sri Vyasa Tîrtharu: His holiness is considered to be the third avatar of Shankukarna(i.e, before Mantralaya mahaprabhu Sri Raghavendra Theertharu). Sri Vyasaraja Teertharu stayed at bhoolaka vaikuntam(Tirumala) for 12 years and did seva to the Lord and graciously handed over the the same to the archaka and left the place. Before leaving the holy precincts he had donated the Shesha Vahana which we see during the Brahmotsava every year.
Sri Vyasaraja was the favoured and respected Rajaguru of four emperors of historical Vijayanagar empire.  Sri Vyasaraja was also the guru of the likes of Kanakadasa and Purandaradasa. Over five hundred years ago Sri Vyasaraja consecrated 732 idols of Hanuman throughout our bharatha desha. Sri Sripadarajaru(Druva amshavada) was his Vidyaguru of Sri Vyasaraya Theertharu and Sri Vijayendra theertharu were his beautiful shishya.
