Virtual Academy: Teaching Strategies for Learning Outcomes; Uma Garimella
Wed, Aug 27, 2014 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM IST

Abstract :
Many teachers are by now familiar with learning outcomes and Bloom's Taxonomy. They may also have realized that the higher order thinking skills, above the recall and comprehension levels, are difficult to achieve with lecture based teaching. There is a strong connect between the teaching strategy and the outcomes achieved by the students. At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to recognize this connection, they will also be able to apply some active learning techniques to their class. Since the faculty and students need some orientation before they plunge into advanced techniques, a few simple yet effective (tried and tested) methods are given. These methods are mapped to the level of Bloom's taxonomy.

Virtual Academy: Assessing Learning Outcomes; Uma Garimella
Thu, Aug 28, 2014 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM IST

Abstract :
Outcomes, Teaching Method and Assessment are three main pillars of the curriculum and they need to be aligned for learning to happen effectively. Students are always interested in getting grades and it is therefore imperative that they are assessed on expected outcomes. The current examinations assess mostly recall and comprehension which is why the higher order outcomes become irrelevant for students. However, when a college intends to get accredited, it needs to show its own assessment process for the POs. At the end of this webinar, faculty will be able to modify recall/comprehension questions to elevate them to  assess higher order thinking. With the help of examples, some simple questioning techniques will be discussed which can form part of tutorials, assignments or tests.

IUCEE Virtual Academy: Friday, Aug 29 at 3:30 pm by Krishna Vedula

The objective of this webinar is to inform you about how you and your college can benefit from participating in the second International Conference on Transformations in Engineering Education (ICTIEE 2015) which is being co-organized by IUCEE and hosted by BMS College of Engineering in Bangalore from January 5 to 8, 2015.

The vision of this Conference is to bring engineering educators, employers and other stake holders from across the world to share best practices for preparing engineering graduates who will be leaders in addressing global challenges. The first Conference was held at BVBCET in Hubli on January 16 to 18, 2014 and was a great success. The themes for this second conference are: Innovations in Teaching and LearningOutcome Based EducationInnovation and Entrepreneurship; Governance and Leadership; Industry Academia Partnerships

We are planning the second conference to be much more interactive in the form of workshops, short keynote presentations coupled with panel discussions, and paper/poster sessions with audience participation. There will be significant preparation beforehand on these themes in the form of interactive webinars. Colleges will be expected to come prepared in teams and leave with an action plan. The Conference website is at http://www.ictiee.org/  and you can access the Brochure at http://www.ictiee.org/content/brochure.pdf. The Collaborators for the conference are: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE, http://www.ieee.org/index.html ), International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES, http://www.sefi.be/ifees/ ), American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE,http://www.asee.org/ ),  and Global Engineering Deans Council (GEDC, http://www.gedcouncil.org/ ).
