New Delhi: Ten institutes from the country have made it to the top 100 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Ranking this year, with Punjab University at the 32nd place.
It had only three universities among the top 100 last year, but thanks to the Indian academy's growing engagement with the rankings process, the number has shot up considerably, making it the "most improved" nation in Asia, said a statement issued by The Times.
IIT Kharagpur followed Punjab University securing the 45th rank while IIT Kanpur was placed 55th.

The rankings were released on Thursday.
Six of India's representatives are IITs, but the list also included Jadavpur University (joint 76th), Aligarh Muslim University (80th) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (90th).
Panjab University was placed within the 226-250 position in the Times World University Ranking 2013-14.
Some of the factors that went in favour of the institute were its citations, research and international outlook. The university got an overall score of 40.2.
The increased presence of Indian institutes in the ranking comes at a time when President Pranab Mukherjee has been highlighting that Indian institutes are not able to make it to the top in the global lists at various forums.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday also favoured evolving an independent India-specific ranking of institutes, stating that the existing ranking systems are skewed towards the western nations.
According to the latest ranking for Asia, University of Tokyo has taken the pole position followed by University of Singapore and University of Hongkong at the third place.
