Dear Colleague,

If we study carefully, we notice that languages have been the core of nation building in almost all countries of the world. After independence of India in 1947, the Indian constitution experts did a great job by giving equal rights to all the languages in India. Unfortunately, the ruling English speaking elite (hardly 1 percent of the India population) of India took the power and ignored millions of non- English speakers. They continued to formulate policies only in English thereby creating a big divide for information access. The poverty in India lies not only in terms of money and resources but also in terms of access to information.

The new Primer Minister's (Modi) assertiveness towards Hindi and other Indian languages gives hope to a large number of population of India who were ignored my English speaking elite. There is nothing against English, but this new government certainly gives hope to people for using their languages. This will certainly boost morale of the common population and pride in their own language and culture.

One simple change towards giving equal status ( not on paper but in practice ) to all official languages in India (currently 30), is certainly going to change the whole dynamics of translation business not only in India but the whole world.

The new Prime Minister gives new hope to Hindi Translators in India

With a new government in place in India, Hindi seems to be bouncing back with a bang. Not only in India but in the world at large. The international business community has read the writing on the wall. If the world wants to do business with India, business community need to communicate with the new prime minister Mr. Narendra Modi in Hindi. Modi is market friendly and has acquired a solid reputation as a tough man and a quick decision maker. It is not surprising that 19th June newspapers have carried a news that the Indian Home ministry has asked government offices to give preference to Hindi. These are the signs of changing times. More is likely to come soon.
