The University named after the Great National Poet Subramania Bharathiar is enshrined

with the motto “Educate to Elevate”. In the University, every effort is harnessed to realize his

dream of making “Educational Institutions as Temple of Learning”. It is the aim of the

University to participate in the task of inculcating necessary Knowledge, Skills and Creative

Attitudes and Values among the youth of the country to contribute more effectively towards

establishing an Equitable, Social Economic order and Secular ideals of our Nation.

School of Commerce

To meet the challenges of emerging scenario in the twenty first century and to optimally

exploit the new opportunities in the field of commerce, the School of Commerce was started in

September 1990. The department offers Ph.D, M.Phil, M.Com (Finance & Accounting) and

M.Com (Finance & Computer Applications) degree courses. So far this school has produced 35

Ph.D and 103 M.Phil graduates. This school has conducted 34 Refresher Courses in Commerce

benefiting more than 900 Colleges and University teachers. It has organized number of

Workshops to revamp the syllabi for Commerce courses and has also conducted Several

Seminars and Conferences. This School has a well-equipped fully air –conditioned computer

laboratory with 70 Computers along with internet facility and a smart class room. This school is

also instrumental in introducing job oriented and innovative courses.

Research and Development (R & D)

Research & Development (R&D) department of Bharathiar University facilitates the

enhancement of the research degree aspirants by ensuring an appropriately qualified, experienced

and sustainable community of researchers in the specific subject area. Moreover, quality

enhancement is achieved through an ongoing process of monitoring and reflection in which

identification and dissemination of good practice is reported to the quality enrichment

committees.

About the Workshop

It is true that the research is a fascinating area of work that takes the researchers to a

prosperous career. A researcher with right spirit, temperament and commitment can scale a great

height and gain human recognition. But there are concerns at the academic fora that the quality

of research has been deteriorating. In addition, a socially relevant, meticulously planned,

methodologically justified, practically viable and logically written report indeed assumes greater

significance in quality enrichment research.

In this backdrop, as an attempt to achieve the research excellence, in our University the

School of Commerce, in collaboration with Research & Development Centre Bharathiar

University, has planned to organize a Comprehensive Serial Research Workshop which is to be

started from the last week of August 2012. The School of Commerce, already conducted several

workshops exclusively for research. In that order, it is decided now to conduct the research

workshop which is designed to provide specific platform for researchers to deliberate research

methods seriously and serially that can promote and produce quality research.

Facilitate researchers for best practices in research education.

Instruct them to ensure quality at every step.

Monitor the implementation of the best practices.

Continuously strive for further improvements.

Discussion on Final stage of the thesis work. Training on research designs, Sampling

methods, Data analysis and interpretation and suggestions to write rough draft of the research

report etc., will be provided.
