I would like to know your view point of this verse you posted.

Am i correct to say that, If my opinion is going to hurt you, then i should not say it to you? And i should not say something that will please you, because then that would become a lie!
If this is the case, then wont i be prevented from expressing my true feelings/opinion? Is it right that i live a suppressed life for the sake of others?

In India it is customary to acknowledge the gift of nature by offering felicitations to its presiding deity. Water is the greatest of such gifts and Varuna is its presiding deity. And hence the Vedic prayer ‘Shano Varuna’ – meaning ‘Be Auspicious Unto Us, oh Varuna!’.
On 18 Mar 1952 Chakravarti Rajagopalachari gave to the Indian Navy its motto – ‘Shano Varuna’ – meaning ‘May the Lord of the Oceans be Auspicious Unto Us’.

The Motto of Indian Air Force has been taken from eleventh chapter of the Gita, the Discourse given by Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra during the Great War of Mahabharata. The Lord is showing His Supreme Divine form to Arjuna and the great form of the Lord is reaching the sky with glory, evoking fear and loss of self-control in the mind of Arjuna.The Indian Air Force, similarly, aims to overwhelm the adversaries with application of aerospace power in defence of the nation.
Lord, seeing your form “Touching the Sky With Glory”, effulgent, multi-coloured, having its mouth wide open and possessing large flaming eyes, I, with my innermost self frightened, have lost self-control and find no peace.

Its not that you should not speak unpleasant truth.. it only means that always speak truth in a manner that is pleasant to others… dont speak truth in a way that it sounds unpleasant to the listener..
what the verse actually is trying to say is present the truth always in a pleasant manner.. because many times truth will be hard to digest.. so in such circumstances it should be presented in a pleasant manner..
consider a doctor who is pretty sure that the patient will definitely die in another five six days.. how does it sound if the doctor tells this to the patient right on his face? That could actually kill the patient right away! Instead the doctor should try to talk to his relatives first, he can also tell the patient that atleast for next 2-3 days I can assure you that nothing will happen to you, and everything else depends on how your body recovers in these 2-3 days…
In a nutshell it means always present the truth so that it is loving and pleasant to listen to, dont tell truth with an intention to harm or hurt someone, if there is unpleasant truth then see if you can present the same in some pleasant manner…
and finally difference of opinion comes under debate and could easily be presented in a pleasant manner by just accompanying it politely with a simple smile, you just have to put it in a way saying that you disagree with the person’s opinion, not with the person himself

Apriyasya pathyasa vaktra shrota ca DhurlabhaH.
Meaning: It is very difficult to get one who tells or one who listens the bitter truth and digest it.
Context : Ramayana’ s Aranya-Kanda. Maareeca trys his best to avoid Ravana’s plan to abduct Sita.
He also warns the divine mention that his death in golden deer it the start of Ravana’s destruction. Maareeca then says the above statement haplessly when Ravana refuses all his advices.
About how to tell truth
Hence as Gurudev said, if one have to convey truth or make point clear the sentence must avoid subjectivity.. It sounds offending to the listener. if it is mixed with objectivity.. the listener may realize it future if not immediately.
Avoid words like “I/Me”, “you/he/she/they”. Eg: “I told you not to do so” to “It would have been better if so and so approach was considered?” Or ” you must take this tablet” to “these tablets to be taken on so and so time” – it makes clear to the patient that doc. is trying to help him get cured. It is like sugar coating a pill(the truth) so that it can be consumable(digestable).
Similarly the recipient must actively listen/underand message, identify the objectivity of the info and conclude the matter. Thirst for truth with right attitude of mind helps to be more objective.
Thanks for the explanation. It was nicely put. I agree that all matters can be voiced in a pleasent way with no intentions of hurting the other person. Yet i think that there are some issues no matter how delicately, put will end up offending the other party. For instance if my aunt is going to insist that i carry on a family ritual which i have no believe in, no matter how delicately i put it, its going to end up hurting. So either i end up hurting her or pretend to believe and do something which i have no faith in.
In this case may be your aunt’s strong belief as well as ego is interrupting her take your views too. For time being in a family, you may have to sacrifice certain things to win over. As the time passes, she may realize that she can attempt to understand your views.
It is like letting the child to fall and learn on his own/teach with his own experience itself.
Or otherwise you may have to request for significance of that rituals. Sometimes, few faiths have to be accepted as it is where we may have short time to try and witness the importance of it.
Incase if you find your views are rational and has strong sense and it is vital that you should follow what you think is correct then you may have to voice out in much planned manner.
Objective is not clashes, but it is how best we can live together with harmony with individual views. It is a team effort.

i feel it was one and the same when the brahmin caste must have come into picture…but over the period since no one followed or even today very very few follow what is stated to follow as a brahman…one being brahamin is remained just for caste sake…:(
I think to be called as brahman needs lot more than just to be called as brahmin…….
So Brahman/Brahmin is a person with Brahma Jnyana (universal knowledge).
Note that Sanskrit is context sensitive and the word that you spoke means different things depending on the different context.
Just to let even other readers know, ‘Brahmin’ has nothing to do with caste, in fact caste system never existed in ancient India,it was some vested interests who started this some time before British came to India and the British simply magnified and glorified it to divide and rule India by putting different castes against each other, by putting different religions against each other and also by putting north and south India against each other. British divided India and left.

kaumaram = childhood
yavvanam = youth
jaraa = old age
dehe = bodies
tatha = in the same way
dehantara = moving out of the body( at the time of death)
praptih = happening/occuring
dhira = intellegent ppl
tatra = in these things
na = no
muhyanti = lamenting
Meaning: Just like the soul is moving from childhood body to youth, then to old age body. In the very similar way its leaving this body at the time of death. Intelligent persons never lament on this thing(death).
So here its very very clearly explained that, even though we are changing our body in this life also, soul is same. And the same soul is leaving the body which then we term as dead body. And the soul is eternal. The Soul then is out into another body(need not be human) and will take birth according to ones deeds.
This is the first and foremost knowledge one must know. Remaining all are next/secondary.
